Dragon Bread

Ingredients
6 cups flour
2 cups warm milk
1 tsp sugar
5 tsp yeast
1/4 cup melted butter
1 tsp salt
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 cup golden raisins
1 egg yolk
1/4 cup sunflower seeds

Directions
1. Measure the flour into a big mixing bowl.  Set this aside.
2. Dissolve the teaspoon of sugar and the yeast into the cup of warm milk.  When it is frothy, stir the butter in as well.  Set this aside.
3. Place the sugar and salt together in a small bowl.  Set aside.
4. Place the raisins, egg yolk, and seeds each in their own small bowl.  Set these aside.
5. Arrange all the small bowls near the big mixing bowl of flour and begin the story.  (Or, just mix all the ingredients together and knead well.)
6. At the end of the story, place dough in a greased bowl and cover with a damp cloth.  Allow to rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
7. Punch it down, shape it into a dragon (on a baking sheet) and leave it to rise again (about 30 minutes).
8. Bake in a 375 degree oven for 30 minutes to an hour, depending on how you divided up the dough.  Bread is done when you tap the underside and hear a hollow sound.

Notes
The magic of this bread is in the process of making and eating it, not necessarily the flavor (which is still good).  There is a story for the initial mixing of ingredients.  Then, after the dough has risen, you shape it into a dragon.  When you cut it, do it with great ceremony because that is when you slay the dragon!  Of all the things we did for Michaelmas this year, slaying the dragon bread impressed my boys the most.
